The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne direct from Salem Massachusetts.

First printed in 1851, this is the text of the 1851 edition. c.1981, 245 pgs. from Bantam Classic Books, published by Bantam Doubleday Dell, New York. Book is brand-new, never read and was a gift purchased directly from the famous tourist attraction "The House of The Seven Gables" in Salem, Massachusetts. There is an oval gold sticker on the first page at the bottom which reads "The House of Seven Gables, Salem, MA". It also comes with a bookmark/keepsake illustration of the "House of the Seven Gables 1668". The cover painting of Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1840 is by Charles Osgood. There is also a short biography of Nathaniel Hawthorne on the 1st page. Hawthorne called "The House of The Seven Gables" a romance, and freely bestowed it with many fascinating gothic touches. A brilliant intertwining of the popular, the symbolic and the historical, the novel is a powerful exploration of personal and national guilt, a work that Henry James declared "the closest approach we are likely to have to the Great American Novel." Because the book is brand new, it has no dog-ears, marks or tears. Cover and pages are tight. ISBN 0-0-2. This "Bantam Books" edition is hard to find in used/out-of-print book stores or rare book shops. These classic books now sell for big money at auction, consignment or rare book stores (if they even carry it) especially in this pristine condition. Stored in a cool, dry place in a smoke-free/pet-free home.

  Storyline:

In a sleepy little New England village stands a dark, weather-beaten, many-gabled house. This brooding mansion is haunted by a centuries-old curse that casts the shadow of ancestral sin upon the last four members of the distinctive old Pyncheon family. Mysterious deaths threaten the living. Musty documents nestle behind hidden panels carrying the secret of the family's salvation or its downfall.
