In this original caricature, artist Samuel Valentine Hunt captures the Spirit of the American West. Born in 1803, Hunt painted and engraved epic scenes of the Frontier. A rare surviving watercolor, the artist's sense of whimsey isbeautifully captured in the delicate features of this lone figure. This piece is hand-signed and dated February 4, 1852. The frame shows mild wear and aging,but the backing is still held in place by hand-wrought nails.
