  Russian Blue - Smoke - Medium - Baby - Female - Cat

It's easy to adopt me this summer!

Throughout this summer 2012, the Humane Society of West Alabama wants to increase my chances at finding my forever home by reducing my adoption fee! Contact my rescue group or stop by to meet me!

The Humane Society of West Alabama's cat adoption center at 1515 Veterans Memorial Pkwy is open Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Appointments are available for other times with advance notice. We're all-volunteer need at least a couple of days of advance notice to schedule appointments.

To adopt, we need to receive an application (link to the online version found below). Some pets could be in foster care. For information on a specific animal, please visit our adoption center or email us at [email removed]!

This gorgeous ash blue girl is Smoke, a female medium-haired Russian Blue-mix kitten. She's approximately 10 weeks old (7/15). Smoke is medium-haired at her young age, and it may stay this length or recede to a shorter true-to-breed length as she matures. Smoke is a very friendly girl who loves to socialize! She loves to get in the middle of whatever we're doing, so she'd be perfect in a home where she knows she'll be the center of attention! Smoke is likely to follow your every move and try to be a part of every activity! Even when she's tired, she'll want to sit close to you for company. She's a very cuddly little lady. She's gentle and mild-mannered, but will be a bit too small to be a playmate with young children without constant supervision. She's small and fragile, too.

Be prepared for special needs with small kittens. Know they do need special care in a very safe environment, along with extra time to bond with you, before considering adopting a tiny kitten. Kittens should not be left alone very long, so leaving them alone during 9 to 5 work hours isn't a good option. That's a living situation better suited for much older kittens. We would not recommend her in a home with dogs weighing more than 10 lbs. Smoke has never been around dogs, and would not know how to protect herself in an unpredictable situation. Smoke currently lives at our cat adoption center, so stop in to meet her and all her friends!

Negative for FIV and FeLK, current on first round of vaccinations as of (7/13) - we must wait a minimum of three weeks after the first set to give kittens their final annual round of vaccinations, which includes the legally mandatory Rabies vaccination. If adopted before the minimum waiting period between vaccs, the adopter is responsible for the vaccinations.

Since Smoke is too young to be spayed, an additional $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit is required at time of adoption to reinforce state law for all shelter animals to be fixed before or after adoption. State law requires all shelter/rescue animals to be spayed/neutered by age of maturity (app. 6 months of age). The adopter would be responsible to have the surgery done for the adopted pet no later than age 6 months. The spay/neuter deposit is refunded later upon delivery of proof (a certificate or vet records) that the kitten has been fixed. Pediatric spaying/neutering is an option to discuss with your vet around 4 months of age.

Our adoption fee is temporarily reduced to only $50, a fee to help defray a fraction of veterinary costs and general care expenses. Our adoptable animals have routine vet visits, and are as healthy as possible as soon as they are in our care. Vet records are provided to adopters. Read the descriptions thoroughly and note the specific personalities or special criteria we recommend for any applicants (some are not good around kids, other cats, dogs, etc.). We cannot accept applications from minors (a legal dependent or under age 19, in the state of Alabama). Read up on our adoption process .
