About the job

When you join us in this vital role, you’ll work as a member of the Capability Team which is part of the Joint Intelligence Organisation (JIO). The team’s remit covers IT and technology, HR, finance, commercial, security, intelligence policy, crisis management and estates functions for the JIO.

You’ll work at the Government’s highest possible intelligence classification as you help to ensure the security of JIO staff, enable delivery of the tools and services we need to get the job done, and assist with the management of our response to crisis incidents. You may be required to work additional or extended hours with little notice during these events, although this will be managed in line with your regular working hours.

Job description

Managing the day-to-day financial operations of our organisation, and leading on commercial relationships, your expertise will help shape the delivery of new initiatives at the heart of the UK’s National Security Community. Building excellent working relationships with colleagues, customers and stakeholders across the Civil Service, UK intelligence agencies, private sector companies and foreign partners, you’ll also:

Analyse and scrutinise expenditure data to provide confidence in our financial position and inform strategic decision making across the organisation

Be responsible for day-to-day expenditure and debt recovery, raise accounts receivable invoices and purchase orders, and ensure prompt payment of supplier invoices

Review, analyse, accrue and make accounting adjustments to ensure each cost centre reports accurate income and expenditure

Answer finance queries from internal colleagues and explore methods of improving financial processes

Ensure compliance with internal policies and financial reporting standards

Provide training and guidance to ensure our expenditure is recorded accurately

Manage the commercial pipeline in line with best practice

Champion knowledge of financial best practice across our organisation

Act as the supplier engagement lead for JIO, ensuring that supplier services are meeting our complex requirements

Assist the Finance Business Partnering Team in the drafting of GL Journals and the Credit Control Team in the recovery of debt

What we are looking for

Confident, proactive and with a ‘can-do attitude’ to your work, you’ll have well developed experience of working within a finance team. Ideally you’ll possess a good understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable and commercial/contract management best practice, and also have:

Strong organisational skills, the ability to manage conflict and urgent tasks, and manage expectations

The ability to deliver at pace and meet challenging deadlines

Experience of using your own initiative to complete tasks to a high standard

Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately

Superb IT skills and good knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets

In addition, you’ll be at an advantage if you have:

Experience of intelligence, foreign policy and national security issues

An understanding of Crown Commercial Service Frameworks, why they exist and how they work

Familiarity with Oracle E-Business Suite or ERP platforms such as NetSuite or SAP S/4HANA

Experience of using Atamis PM or similar Procurement Management software

Experience using QlikSense or Business Intelligence tools such as SAP Analytics Cloud or PowerBI

We’re committed to investing in upskilling our team members to enable them to thrive, so don’t be put off applying for this role if you don’t have all the skills listed above – we’ll equip the successful candidate with them once in post. With this in mind, the application process will seek to gauge potential just as much as current performance.
