Counsellor

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced counsellor to join the Emotional Support Team support Devon in this home working role.

Position: S1112 Stroke - Emotional Support Coordinator/Counsellor (x 2 Positions)

Location: Home-based Devon, however, frequent travel will be required as part of this role (May include team meetings or other work-related meetings)

Hours: Part-time, 18 hours per week (flexible working considered)

Salary: Circa GBP14,040 per annum (FTE circa GBP27,300 per annum)

Contract: This is a fixed-term contract until 31 January 2025. Services are contracted and there is currently funding for this contract until 31 January 2025

The Role

The project is funded by NHSE catalyst funding to deliver an Emotional Support Service taking an integrated approach with existing community services. Reporting to the Emotional Support Service Manager, these roles will deliver a professional counselling service to stroke survivors, carers and relatives. Counselling sessions are designed to help clients to develop emotional resilience, readjust to life after stroke and prepare to reintegrate into community life.

Key responsibilities will include:

Providing one to one counselling to stroke survivors, carers and relatives including those with communication or cognitive difficultiesProviding counselling sessions in person, on-line or by telephone, throughout DevonAssessing the appropriateness of counselling for service users by providing emotional needs assessment sessions as well as using appropriate screening/evaluation tools (e.g. GAD and PHQ)Managing risk and safeguarding issues in accordance with appropriate legal, ethical and organisational requirements.

About You

You will have:

An advanced diploma in integrative, humanistic or person-centred counselling/psychotherapy; for example, BACP recognised course or equivalent (i.e. 450 hours skills and theory, 100 hours of supervised practice, 20 hours of personal therapy)A minimum of 1 year post qualification supervised clinical practiceBACP registration (or equivalent) and actively working towards accreditationExperience of delivering short-term counsellingExperience of working with people with cognitive impairment

This role requires frequent travel across a large geographical locality to visit people at home and in community settings. Candidates must be able to demonstrate how they can meet this requirement of the role.
