1971 Airstream Caravel Aluminum Travel Trailer Tiny DREAM...

Description

If you're here you likely don't need a primer on why Airstreams are the best travel trailers in the world, or why they hold their value and their structural integrity exponentially better than their non-Aluminum counterparts. So let's get to it!This is a delightful little 1971 Airstream Caravel. Great for a tiny home/mother-in-law apt behind or alongside your house, a she-shed/he-shed, Air BnB, you name it! Or drag it all over the country glamping in style! At only 18 feet long and 3300 pounds she can sleep two adults and two small children (or one teenager!) comfortably. No expense was spared for this restoration. I have invested over $35,000 dollars and about 4 months working on it full time, to give context for the asking price. These model year trailers came with a tweaked/crooked dinette layout which gets you more room in the bed when the dinette converts. They remedied this in the subsequent iterations by adding a foot to the overall length of the trailer. Super rare to find one of these in this condition, and the small footprint opens up the possibility for smaller trucks and SUVs to tow it. I'll try to be as thorough as possible about what has been done:The whole interior of the trailer has been painted with several coats of Behr Interior Satin (Polar Bear). Everything works as it should!  The following items have been replaced/added:New glass, all windows have been replaced!New low-profile Dometic rooftop AC 13,500 BTU! Custom install, as these trailers came stock with a ceiling fanNew custom Acacia floating wood floor with vapor barrierNew custom installed American cherry butcher block countertopNew house battery (12 volt deep cycle)New Progressive Dynamics Battery intelli-charger/maintainer/inverterNew brass kitchen faucet with extendable spray hoseNew custom printed wallpaper throughoutNew tin kitchen backsplash from American TinNew porch light lensNew chrome license plate holderNew red and white striped high quality vinyl awning New subway tile wall paneling Lots of new doors and compartments custom made, new custom drawer pulls and latches, reinforced the dinette bench with new custom curved wood shelves where the broken plastic ones were, refinished the cafe table (which lays down to convert the dinette into a bed!) with epoxy paint and replaced the foldout legDometic 3 way refrigerator, 3 burner gas stove range/oven and hood vent/fan, water pump have all been replaced, new hoses and faucet handles for dump valves, every interior bulb replaced with new LED lighting throughout interior, new marker lighting on exteriorIn the bathroom: I repainted the counters with Tub Epoxy, installed a new Dometic toilet, new shower head/hose, new custom mosaic glass bathroom tile with Redgard waterproofing installed beneath, subway tile paneling, black penny tile wallpaper, custom printed Shower curtain from Society6, reinforced wall and shelf behind toilet with wood instead of original plastic. Furnace and water heater are original but function perfectly, I ran new ducting for the furnace along the length of the trailer. All the interior cracks/lines in the built in furniture in the trailer have been caulked, roof seams recaulked, new window/door/compartment weather stripping throughout trailerNew luxury bedding and pillows all included, plants and books not includedSurface rust removed from frame and repainted with RustoleumBearings repacked, new chrome hubcaps, tires have about 5,000 miles on themPropane tanks are close to full! The exterior frame, bumper and tanks have been repainted silver with RustoleumExterior has been polished about 180 hours so far with Jesco and Nuvite products, and I included newer photos (driveway photos) after I've done more polishing since the 'lifestyle' photos were taken. I wanted a perfect mirror finish but I've just run out of time and money.  The skin itself does have scratches and imperfections throughout, it's a 52 year old trailer. And of course each subsequent shine will get it closer to perfection. Please ask all questions before bidding, trailer located in Salt Lake City! I'm willing to deliver for a fee anywhere in the continental US, or if you want to come pick it up you can go straight down to Zion National Park and break it in on your way home!Cash or wire transfer only, please, upon inspection of the trailer! On Aug-04-23 at 21:10:35 PDT, seller added the following information:UPDATE!!!! I took the trailer out for a test drive and noticed a squeak in the wheels, it was only a broken spring in the brake assembly but we decided to have them replaced (the whole assembly on both sides and backing plates) and my gas mileage while towing went up from 12 to 15 (in my 4Runner). I think the brakes were just not working at all before the replacement. With the sway bars I could barely tell there was a trailer back there. Seriously smooth!!Also some people have asked about the title, it is clear and free of liens. This trailer is your dream come true
