Animal control picked up Camelia from a yard where she was found with severe, painful ear mites and an eye injury to her right eye.
She was kept in a loving foster home until she was spayed and recovered.
An X-ray showed a bullet behind her eye.
She was examined by an exotic veterinarian and an animal eye specialist in November to make sure she is healthy and comfortable.
Although her left eye appears healthy, she is completely blind in both eyes.
She will not require treatment, but her right eye may require occasional cleaning.
Camellia and other blind rabbits can still enjoy a qualify life.
They will learn to navigate their space and hop up onto the sofa, but they may bump into things occasionally, so it's best not to rearrange the furniture too often.
It's important to understand they can startle when they feel s sudden breeze from movement near them, so it's best to speak when approaching a blind rabbit.
Camellia uses her litter box in her pen.
She will come running for food and likes to run around the living room and check out people in her path of exploration especially if there are treats in their hands.
She hasn't asked for a lot of petting in her new foster home yet, but she likes to lounge close to people.
Her ears are still very sensitive, so she prefers to be petting around the next and cheeks.
She will do best in a tranquil home with people who understand rabbit behavior well and without small children. She has lived with dogs and cats.
Come meet this beautiful rabbit and other adoptable rabbits at our next monthly adoption event!
If you need more information about rabbits or would like to attend an adoption event, see the information below.
Come meet all of our fabulous foster rabbits!
Because we do not have a shelter to introduce our foster rabbits and our volunteers have limited time to respond to all online inquiries, the best way to meet one of our rabbits is to attend our next adoption day.
Sometimes people bond to a different rabbit in person than the one they choose online.
All rabbits are spayed/neutered (age permitting) and litter box trained. All rabbits are to be adopted to indoor homes only.
Current bunny parents are encouraged to bring their rabbits to adoption clinics if they are interested in adopting a companion rabbit. Your rabbit must be spayed or neutered to be eligible to meet one of our fosters. SHRS volunteers will be happy to help your bunny through that feisty first date.
