My husband and I recently had a baby, and cannot care for our dogs anymore. They are high maintenance, but incredibly kind, smart dogs who are eager to be trained and played with. They know how to sit, stay, sit before being let outside or eating, out to leave the room, and down/laydown. We do not have time to take care of them anymore. They are crate trained, but mystic, the younger dog has anxiety when left in crate too long and can have panic attacks.
Dog Behavior Notes — Mystic & Willow
Both dogs are currently allowed to stay out of their crates unless the family leaves the house.
They like to receive mental stimulation through playtime, chew toys, and rotating enrichment toys.
Willow
Primary Initiator of Chewing: She starts chewing behaviors (wooden fence, rugs), and Mystic tends to follow her lead.
Attachment Behavior: Willow has developed strong separation anxiety, and loves women.
She wants to be physically close and will whine for hours at the bedroom door even when she can see owner
This behavior began around the same time as the chewing.
Emotional State: Willow seems to crave reassurance and proximity; likely reacting to changes in household routine (baby’s arrival, attention shift).
Interaction with Mystic: Tends to remain calm during Mystic’s anxious moments; allows Mystic to lick her face when Mystic seeks comfort.
Mystic
Progress: Panic attacks have fully stopped since being allowed out of the crate full-time.
Behavioral Mimicry: Follows Willow’s lead in both good and bad behaviors. Chewing began after Willow started it.
Temperament: Naturally more anxious and submissive; looks to Willow and the humans for cues.
Improved Regulation: When anxious, now seeks comfort (e.g., licking Willow) instead of panicking or barking.
House Behavior: Still pees on carpet or blankets if given the opportunity, possibly due to habit or scent marking rather than stress.
Current Challenges
Destructive chewing on furniture and rugs despite access to toys and supervision.
Willow’s strong need for closeness is leading to whining and setting off mimic behavior in Mystic.
Both dogs are testing new boundaries in the adjusted household routine with the baby’s arrival. They behave much better without such intense change, and deserve an owner who can put time into their training and have plenty of room to play.
Price set so we know good owners will take dogs. Would like to meet with you before just giving them away.
