Luna Bernese Mountain Dog Adult - Adoption, Rescue
Luna Bernese Mountain Dog Adult - Adoption, Rescue
Jun 13, 2024
Description

Luna came to us as an owner surrender. She came from a very troubled start. She lived outdoors in a dog kennel run with access to a garage for the first five years of her life. She was not well socialized with children, men or other dogs. Now that her life has begun as a family member and house dog she has developed some anxieties and does not ever want to be left alone outside again! She has very severe separation anxiety. She will need a very experienced pet owner who will have time and energy to work her through her emotional neglect. She would do best in a home with a single woman or a single woman with teenage daughters. She knows basic commands sit, down & off (for jumping which shes still working on). She walks awesome on a leash. Has great walking skills. Does not like to come across people, especially men on walks. She is completely house broken. She is a Velcro dog. Doesnt like to be more than a foot away from her people at any given time. Since Im home most often that seemed to always be me. Cute as first . . . then grew exhausting to always be asking her to move or watch out. I couldnt get up from a chair or the couch without her jumping up afraid I was going to leave her. If I shut her out of a room she was claw at the door.

She may be best suited to life on a farm, where she has lots of room outdoors in a secure fenced area to live.

I'm not sure what Luna's deal with men is, whether she was beaten in the past by one or just mistreated by one to the point where she learned to fear all men, but she does not like men! She is also very fearful/ anxious about meeting new people. At first she's hesitant and reserved and will even show her teeth. Once she knows you and accepts you, she is a a happy tail wagging face licking girl. She is also excellent with other dogs in a play yard situation however when she's in your lap or you're petting her and your other dog approaches she will defensively defend her spot in your lap with bites growl snarls and even pouncing. This can be fixed, but it will take an experienced dog person with patience and consistency.
