  My story

Meet Piggy! This beautiful five year old Xolo/Crested mix came to us with her mother and brother from an owner who could no longer care for her. We were asked to help and of course we said yes! Piggy is now relaxing in her loving foster home while she waits to be discovered by her forever family.

And there is so much to love about Piggy! She's an affectionate, loving girl who gets along beautifully with other dogs. She was so nervous when she arrived in her foster home, but as soon as she made some doggy friends she relaxed and settled in and began to show her frisky, playful side. She loves to do a happy little dance for you! She also loves playing with toys in her foster home. Piggy is very food motivated- a plus in training! She seems to be entirely housetrained, and she settles in quickly to a new routine. And Piggy is a homebody! She's not a dog that is a good candidate for social events, dog parks, or doggy daycare. She gets a little stressed when out of her home, so a securely fenced yard is a must for Piggy. Some things that an adopter needs to know about Piggy – she doesn't make a great first impression, as it takes her a little time to relax and trust when she meets a stranger. And Piggy has excellent communication skills! She will growl when she feels uncomfortable with something so it's easy to know what her boundaries are. It's important that an adopter recognize that this is not a mean or aggressive behavior in any way, and is actually a typical trait of the Xolo breed. She should never be scolded for communicating her desires. Piggy also gets a little growly when she's on a chair or lap and another dog tries to join her. She can be a little possessive of her foster parents! But she's learning that there's enough love for every dog in the home. Piggy is also an incorrigible beggar! She was fed table scraps in her previous home, so she assumes that human food is going to be shared with her. She's learning that her meals and her high-quality treats are appropriate, but table scraps and human food is not. Piggy has a heart of gold and is well worth the time it takes to get to know her! She's a wonderful friend for her doggy foster siblings and an affectionate, loving, loyal companion. She's healthy, smart and responsive to training, and an all-around great dog. The right home for Piggy would have a fenced yard, a parent or two who could understand Piggy's signals (and because little kids don't understand dog signals, a home with no young children is required), and another friendly, well socialized dog or two. She would be happiest and settle in much more quickly if she had a doggy friend or two in her forever home. We're confident that Piggy will bring a lot of love and joy to a lucky family.(Piggy is being fostered in New England)
