Description

Check out this original 1950’s gem from the golden age of sound.  Killer styling, killer tone, and rare in this sweet shape.Made for just a few short years, from 1956 to 1958, the Gretsch 6169 cowboy amp is now highly sought-after, especially in this condition.  Original cream-white tolex, brass-studded tooled leather bands, original 6x9 Rola speakers, brass campfire belt-buckle badge, and of course the way-cool wrap-around steer-head grille & tweeter porthole.Plus, the sound is to die for.  With its kickass dual 6V6 power-plant you get all the rich, warm tone that make these 1950’s tube-amps so desirable.  Yet crank it up past three-quarters, and it also gives you a rollicking crunch.  Plus, the tone control delivers a genuine high-to-low sonic spectrum.  Even has a treble jack-in, for when you want even brighter tones.  Now click the amp’s included footswitch and engage the built-in tremolo, as lush, sweet, & warbly as a chorus of songbirds.Best of all, the amp is in crackerjack condition, and original from its cream tolex to its transformers, from its speakers to cream knobs, and all the elecs, too.  Not perfect by any means, with its share of nicks, scuffs, scratches, & dings (just enlarge the pics to see all).  Two of the corners also have a spot of touch-up, less than a half-inch around, and literally invisible without a black light.  Overall, this rare Model 6169 cowboy amp is pretty darn clean, and way, way nicer than the very few others I’ve seen listed.  They just don’t come up for sale often in this nice shape.Specially made for Gretsch by Chicago’s illustrious Valco Company, during the 1950’s glory days of Chet Atkins, Jimmy Webster, Duke Kramer, and of course the famous 6120 & Round-Up guitars.  The amp measures about 23” x 16” x 8”, and includes the wood-wedge footswitch plus a vintage-style copy of the original 1957 Gretsch 6169 sales sheet. One thing I’d bet on, whether you’re a guitarist, harp player, investor or collector, you’d likely wait a long time before finding another in this fine shape.  See more of its great specs below.$7,200 obo.              $90 shipping.  (very far & int’l locations may require add’l charge)The 1957 Gretsch Electromatic Twin “cowboy” amplifier:Model number:  6169.Serial number:  X71013.Made by:  Valco Mfg, Chicago, IL.Cream-white tolex over lock-joined wood cabinet.Original tooled-leather banding w/ brass studs.Original ivory-color butyrite heavy-duty handle w/ brass posts.Speakers:  original Rola twin 6x9s, dated 285546 & 285547 (the 46th & 47th weeks of 1957).Grille:  original tan-flocked metal mesh.Tweeter:  original Rola 5”, dated 285539 (the 39th week of 1957).Tubes, 6 total:  6V6-GT, 6V6-GT, 6SC7, 6SC7, 6SQ7, and 5Y3 black-metal rectifier.Power transformer:  original E3020, dated 166545 (the 45th week of 1957),Control panel, top to bottom:  power lamp, standby switch, fuse, tone knob, tremolo knob, tremolo footswitch in, volume knob (is also power on/off), treble in, std in, std in.Knobs:  original cream color Daka.Power cord:  vintage brown 2-prong (for safety we strongly recommend updating to a modern 3-prong grounded plug).Approx. amp size:  23” wide, 16” high, & 8” deep, weight 26 lbs.Includes:  wooden-wedge footswitch, plus color-copy on vintage-style paper of original 1957 Gretsch “cowboy” amp sales sheet. You may rest assured that all my descriptions are accurate, with no disappointments, no unpleasant surprises.  I know you’ll enjoy owning this cool amp as much as I have.      I also pack super well.  Your amp will arrive to you safe, sound, & ready to soothe your soul.
