Description

The Surly Ogre! An amazingly versatile bike-packing, touring, commuting, and all around adventure bike! This bike has been on some super fun adventures, and still has plenty more to come. I've ridden it from Portland, OR to Salt Lake City to propose to my wife. I did MOST of the Great Divide from the Canadian border down to southern Colorado (stupid trick knee). I've raced it in local mountain bike races. I've done a bunch of local mini tours and over-nighter bike packing/touring trips. I even delivered our first born son through the main triangle. Ok, maybe kidding about that one. I gotta admit I'm bummed to be selling this, but I'm moving to a smaller place and this will cover the cost of the moving truck.Chris King hubs (rear has the STEEL 10 speed freehub body, so no more gouging of the soft alloy body)Chris King headset (Pewter Sotto Voce... the subtle and low-key version of the logo)Chris King bottom bracket (I slipped with the tool and marred the outside, please see photo)XT 11 speed shifter and rear derailleurBrand new Shimano chain (LG500)34t narrow/wide chainring has maybe 300 miles on it (104 bcd)11-46 XT cassette has maybe 900 miles on it (it feels great with the new chain, no rumble grumble)170mm Zee crankset (with some good superficial scratches near pedals)RaceFace 31.8 bar (700mm wide) and seatpost (27.2mm)Black generic stem (70mm)Avid BB7 mechanical brakes (yeah I know, I never got around to replacing them with hydro, but they work just fine)Comfy black foam gripsFizik Antares VS saddle (test saddle, so it's purple!) Pink Alienation platform pedalsGLOW IN THE DARK Velocity water bottle cages (not shown, ran out of photo slots)Rear spacing 135mm (rear wheel has 8mm bolts, I will include a spare mini 8mm wrench that fits in tool bags)Includes Surly Monkey NutsFront spacing 100mm (front wheel is QR with rad, old school XT skewer)Specialized Fast Trak Control 29x2.3" tires 2Bliss ready with new tubes Alex Adventurer rims (25mm external) with fresh NON-tubeless rim strips (buuuut I totally ran them tubeless for years with Gorilla tape)DT Swiss spokesOH YEAH! A Specialized SWAT chain tool and spare 11 speed links set into the steerer (above the stem, see photo)I think that's it!You might be saying WAIT, how does an 11 speed cassette fit on a 10 speed freehub body? Shimano's 11 speed mountain cassettes were MADE to fit onto the 10 speed bodies, because at the time not everyone was rocking the newer wheel type. But now you can sport the OG Chris King hubs with newer groups. The Chris King stuff has all been cleaned and overhauled. Based in Portland, Oregon, Chris King makes some amazing components. They last FOREVER. I've got a headset on a different bike from 2001 and it's rock solid. Just a little cleaning and lubing (with RingDrive lube) and it'll last longer than you will. Those parts (headset, bb, hubs) go for $1400 themselves. https://chrisking.com/NOTES: It's a used bike and shows some wear and tear. I tried to take pictures of anything that looks less than perfect. There are spots where bags have rubbed into the paint, but I've patina'ed those areas and sealed them. They've been like that for over 5 years now with zero rust coming through. The rear brake is running normal Shimano housing, and I bumped up to compression-less for the front brake housing. 180mm rotor front, 160mm rear. The spacer at the BB is on that side intentionally to improve the chainline of the 1x setup. I'm PRETTY sure this is the 2007 model. The frame was frame-saver a while back. No rust on the steerer or inside the seat tube (please see photos).I will include the mini 8mm allen wrench, two Velocity resin glow-in-the-dark bottle cages, a spare BB7 brake caliper, the spare links from the new chain, and a few other small goodies that will come in handy with the bike. Thanks for looking!JoeFrom https://surlybikes.com/bikes/ogre:"If you’re like us, your bike needs likely change by the day, week, month or year. Quite the adaptable little beast, Ogre can get you to your job during the week, then way out of town on the weekend. It’s not sluggish on pavement or gravel and can also hold its own on singletrack."Ogre is designed to be the ultimate steel utility vehicle. It relishes in those “take-the-long-way-home-and-find-some-beverages-along-the-way” sort of commutes. Snow, sleet or sweltering humidity, this is an ideal year-round commuter bike. You can also haul enough crap on it that you don’t even have to go home if you don’t want to.All the barnacles you could ever possibly ask for including rack and fender, multiple three-pack mounts and mid-blade.Clearance for 29” x 2.5”Surly Ogre Medium Army Green Used 29in Wheel touring bike packing mountain bike
