Description

This is a late 1971 CB500 K0 First generation CB500 Engine # CB500E-1028636  I want to first say the tires on this bike are the original tires, I haven't removed them in case a collector wants the bike and doesn't plan on riding it. The tire code indicates February of 1971 original Bridgestone Speed Masters - (no dry rot) - if there was even one major crack I would just junk them and install new rubber (I've put 414 miles on them so far). If the bike is going to a rider then the tires can be removed, the weakest showing part of this motorcycle are the wheels because of dullness of the original spokes and nipples, In my mind I cant rebuild the wheels without putting the tires at risk. Newly built wheels and fresh rubber would transform this.

The gas tank and side covers were excellent condition donors because the original body kit had a 70's paint job that was sold off. The tank is my original 73' CB500 tank. Everything else on this motorcycle is original to it, including the above mentioned original tires with no dry rot. The factory chain with no master link  and sprockets in excellent condition, handlebars, mirrors, speedo and tach, both switch housings are in excellent condition, the fork rubbers are soft and sourced from a survivor 550, the originals ended up cracking. The seat is original with one small tear and what looks to be a round burn mark. The electrical components are in perfect shape, the forks have been rebuilt with new fluid but the original seals are in place and work very well. The crown jewel of all the brightwork are the original 4-4 exhaust pipes, I did freshen up the rear of each pipe with some gloss black as they were starting to flake and were faded and repaired the bottom of number 4.

The motor suffered broken intake valve springs on 1 and 3 from some pitting from sitting, #1 piston and rod were damaged.

The motor was fully rebuilt, it took donor rods and a donor head, NOS pistons gaskets and seals. The rebuild was handled by Phil White of Phil's Cycle Shop in Waterford, MI (now retired and closed). Here is a link to the build thread for all pictures and information over the lifespan of the build, thanks for looking.

I've put 414 miles on these tires, very gentle riding, I suggest to anyone who plans on riding it to replace them.Choose 1080p for all videos.VIDEO OF THE BIKE (I have more videos posted at various stages of the build)This videos shows the bike starting, idling, riding, and all lights/signals./watch?v=9n_Bgs7FzAganother video a few months oldhttps://youtu.be/ahSt3ZZ0WsEanother comparison video with other bikeshttps://youtu.be/p_4tHY6PcO4On Jun-21-23 at 20:13:25 PDT, seller added the following information:another video made before I replaced the fork gator rubbers - but shows the bike idle and rev and exhaust sound - /watch?v=upH78IwJi3Y&t=11s
