  Buttons's story

  BUTTONS (KENTUCKY)

Buttons is a 6- pound, 5-year-old (estimated) Yorkie boy being fostered in Elizabethtown, KY.

Meet handsome Buttons! Buttons was rescued along with 700 other dogs from a South Georgia puppy mill. Up until just a few days ago, his universe was limited to a 2 x 2 metal cage where he spent his days and nights. When we picked him up he was so dirty, matted and poorly cared for that it was hard to even tell if there was a dog inside the smelly unrecognizable wad of twisted fur. But the wad moved, and breathed and yes, even offered licks to the strange hands that pulled him from one crate and gently eased him into another. Then there was a long drive that Buttons came to hear someone call a Freedom Ride. Eventually the car stopped, and he was taken inside. Soon he felt kind hands start to slowly and gently cut away to matted fur that kept him from seeing and moving well. It felt like the weight of the world falling away from him and he soon was able to see the faces of his rescuers. He felt the warm soothing bath water and hands rubbing him softly and all the years of filth and stench began to wash away. Buttons was FREE! You can see from Buttons Before and After shots what a metamorphosis he went through. Surprisingly, Buttons only health concerns are skin issues (irritation, missing hair, etc.) and poor dental condition. Both of these are easily (if not inexpensively) addressed and after his skins clears up a bit he will have his much-needed dental cleaning, extractions (if needed) and neuter. Yes, Buttons baby-making days are over, and he can start the process of learning to be a normal, happy doggy. Buttons is a bit skittish like the other puppy mill dogs, but he does love attention and affection. He is getting along well with his foster siblings. Buttons is already cute as a button but he will have a professional grooming this weekend and will be EVEN CUTER (is that even possible?) Stay tuned as we get to know him better. Please consider donating towards his care using whichever method you prefer and Thank You!
