Labrador Retriever - Marley - Medium - Adult - Male - Dog
Marley is a wonderful dog. He is sweet and loving and really, very very smart. He is crate trained, potty trained and loves to play brain games. Since being with the rescue he has excelled to a point I didn't imagine possible, been through multiple training/behavior classes and had rattlesnake avoidance training. He does better with female dogs than he initially does with other males, but I think he would do best as an only dog. He is not good with cats. Marley doesn't have any special medical needs but he does have behavioral tendencies that would require the right fit for him. When Marley came into the rescue he was the most reactive dog I (or my trainer) had ever met. Not only was he reactive to other dogs, but light and sound reactive to such a large degree it was very difficult for him to work around any distractions. With behavior modification, medication to help curb compulsive and anxiety tendencies and exercise, we have been able to unleash a completely different dog. Marley has been off the meds for over 2 years now and continues to excel in training without any loss of his love-bug personality. He will do best in an active home, someone that is willing to give him a lot of structured exercise that works both his body and his overactive brain. Marley really isn't the type of dog you are going to be able to just take for a stroll a few times a week and pat on the head when you come home from a long days work. He will need continued training to keep the reactivity in check and he truly LOVES to learn new tricks commands and puzzles. He is trained to a bike jogger and adores going on runs along side the bike. He isn't the dog for everyone but for an active family or person that wants a dog they can work, he will give years of total love, devotion and enjoyment.
